Hogwarts Psychoanalysis by House and Typology : #001 Gryffindor

ENFP
These people are often very strongly opinonated, as most Gryffindors are, and they tend to make their judgments based not upon what they see, but what they feel. First impressions are everything for them, and within these moments they decide whether or not they trust you. Since they are not as stubboringly judging as ENFJs would be, they will not immediately cast you out if they have a bad feeling about you, in fact they will buzz around you trying to see why they feel that way, and whether or not they can change it. They are incredibly emotional, and more often than not they wear their hearts on their sleeves, and they feel more empathy toward how others feel than themselves. This is why they act the way they act, if they do not try to see some kind of good in everyone, it hurts them as an individual, more than it hurts the other person.
INFP
Like ENFP’s, these Gryffindors also rely highly on their intuition at first glance. The majour difference between them is that INFP’s can be much more drawn within themselves, and therefore not as empathetic toward the feelings of others. This means they can make their judgments, and they will try and see the good in others, but very often it is not an extreme mission to them. They will try their best to see the light in you, but if they can’t do it, then they will carry on with their lives and go onto whatever other ideas they have. These are the more inwardly adventurous Gryffindors, meaning rather than running out to do things, they would rather have individual hobbies or jobs they work toward, and in this they enjoy themselves greatly.
ENFJ
This is one of the most common types for Gryffindors, as it enhances most of their characteristics. These people are strongly emotional and believe themselves to be involved in everything personally. They are friendly, and when they make their true friendships they remain loyal and true in them, and have mentally given themselves an unbreakable vow to stay true to the people they care about. They expect others to this is as well, so when they have someone betray them, they are quite taken aback, and their emotions can jumble and cloud their judgment, a very bad thing for them, as their judgment is what can carry them along so smoothly in their life. Harry Potter himself is most likely an ENFJ.
INFJ
Out of all possibly types, INFJ is probably the one that Hermione Granger would probably fit best in. These people are brilliant planners, and for every plan they have that fails (which is incredibly rare), they have five more behind it. They are great observers, and can often see a lot of things that others may miss, especially extraverted Gryffindors that may be looking too much into the social aspects ofa situation. INFJ Gryffindors are much better at holding their emotions back when it is needed, however they are strongly feeling. They will often overlook what they feel to help others until they are alone, and then they will give themselves time to consider their own situation, and let their emotions run.
ESTJ
These individuals are hyperaware of the people around them, and are also very socially-oriented. They are big picture thinkers, trying to figure out how their actions or the actions of others can affect everyone as a community, rather than it would affect them. They will always say what is on their mind, rather you like it or not, and this can make them come off as blunt and rude. This is not their intention, they just want for every individual to realize they are not the only person in the world, and learn to think about others before they act. ESTJ Gryffindors can just seem a bit hypocritical at times, because they themselves do not acknowledge the feelings of others before expressing their opinion.
ISTJ
Similar to ESTJs in the way they tend to look at thinks in the form of the big picture, ISTJs have a tendency to walk blindly into a situation. This is because, despite their thinking traits, they have selective thinking. They focus on whatever their judgment and senses tell them they need to pay attention to, and they work with that within their thought process to figure out what course of action they should take. This can lead them to be impulsive, even though they believe they have been perfectly thorough in their examination. An example of a Gryffindor ISTJ would most likely be Seamus Finnigan.
ESFJ
This type is most likely the one in which most of the Weasleys would fall, most notably, Ron. ESFJ Gryffindors are deadly loyal people, and they pick their friends easily and without hesitation. Their quick judgment and sensibility allow them to decide almost immediately who they like, and in this way they are good at deciding who they will want to stick with throughout life. They often put other people before themselves, most especially their friends, and are quick to defend anyone who the believe deserves it. Of course, even with their extreme need to be there for others, in lies a bit of selfishness, and at times if they help without believing they get anything in return, their high emotional scale can backfire, and their temper can fly off.
ISFJ
ESFJ and ISFJ Gryffindors are almost identical in their behaviours, except for one thing. ISFJs are immediately more hesistant in getting close to others, because they are unsure of what the results could be. They will immediately judge and analyze others to see if they are trustworthy, because the worst thing imaginable for them is to be betrayed by someone they thought cared about them. They are like this in every aspect of their lives, and will usually put their feet in to test the water before jumping in. An ESFJ that has been hurt one too many times can quickly mold themselves into an ISFJ, to make sure they don’t get hurt again.
ENTP
These individual are sharp, and large seekers of fun. They are always trying to look for the brighter side of life, and their thinking ability as well as their outstanding perception can allow them to find it in almost anything. They are very friendly, but can be a bit naive as they are not often trying to look into the minds of others. These people are more focused on the rest of the world, what adventure they can find and where, and this is where intuition comes in, not in a human sense but in a sense of how they can make the most of life. They are often very happy people, as they do not let the opinions of others get in the way. They are only truly upset when they have to stop their ongoing motion.
INTP
These people are a bit more mellow than your average Lion, as they tend to prefer their own company to the company of others. They can be kind to people who try to talk to them, sure, but really they would much rather you leave them alone. They are adventurous not outwardly but intellctually, wanting to challenge their mind at a constant rate. So they are often found doing something they find stimulating, rather it be reading, writing, taking extra classes, anything they find can broaden their horizions and make them a more well developed individual. This is their drive, and what makes them happy. They are much less emotional than other Gryffindors, so long as you leave them be to work with their own flow.
ENTJ
Gryffindors with this type live their life as if it is a mission. They have everything single aspect of it planned out, every goal they have, every action they must take to get to that goal, and what comes after it. They are so strongly ambitious they they are highly close to being Slytherins, but what keeps them as a Gryffindor is their extreme need for justice in any situation. They have a stong sense of right and wrong, and if they believe in something they stick to their guns. ENTJ Gryffindors would make fantastic attorneys, if they ever chose to go into the field of law.
INTJ
Similar to INTPs in the way that they are not as emotionally attached as your average Gryffindor, INTJs are very business-like in their behaviours. They still have aspects of loyalty, but rather than having this to the people around them, they are loyal to themselves. They know what they want, and they will stick to that. They have no problem telling you that you are in their way, or that you are wrong, and they can often come off as blunt. They could care less if you believe them to be rude, because they have the nerve to push through it, and in the end they are strong, and that is what is important to them.
ESTP
ESTP Gryffindors are not individually emotional, but instead are large into knowing or sensing what others are thinking. In Hogwarts, they would be excellent at Divination, as they almost have a sixth sense in knowing what others are thinking, due to their emotional range combining with ESP, and addition of the thinking traits. They do not keep what they percieve about others to themselves, instead they use it to help. ESTP Gryffindors would make brilliant psychiatrists, as they can catch on quickly and have the ability to talk through with another person what is wrong, and what can help.
ISTP
These Gryffindors are hyperaware of their own self, and are completely comfortable in this aspect. They know what is going on within them, or at least they believe they do, and this gives them much self-assurance and confidence. The addition of a large amount of nerve causes them to go for whatever it is they desire, and do not take their introversion as a sign that they are shy, as they certainly or not. The reason they are more strongly expressed as introverts rather than extraverts is because of how self-aware they are, and that they often to not care so much about how others percieve them due to this.
ESFP
The most emotional of any Gryffindor, these people are incredibly sensitive. They are sweet and not as hard-headed or outspoken as most Lions, but they are incredibly close to anyone they care about. They have an overabundance of love, and if someone they consider a friend or family is hurt in anyway, they take part of the pain for them, and feel it just as much. They care for everything, and are willing to go out of their way to help anyone they believe needs it. Their pureness is their curse, as it can put them in situations that they would rather not be in, as the emotions of it take toll on them hard.
ISFP
A good nickname for these could be “energy absorbers” because they tend to take in whatever is around them. The combination of SFP in them allows them to understand the deeper aspects of everything, not just other people, and due to their introversion rather than express this as their own emotions, they store it up for further reference, when they may need it. This makes them great observers with a phenomenal memory, and this helps them in many parts of life.

G e n e r a l - P e r s o n a l i t y
First, it should be pointed out that, despite the unfair reputation they are often given, Slytherins are not, in any way, naturally evil. Evil comes in many forms and that includes in the forms of all the Hogwarts houses, not just one. Slytherins are just hungry in their ambition, self-confident, and driven. They do not let emotions or obligations get in their way, because once they set goals, they full intend to go for them, no matter what is in their path. So they don’t truly mean to hurt people when they do, they are just incredibly blunt and straightforward, a trait that can be seen as shocking to the more emotional houses. In short, Slytherins are strong and beautiful in this strength, as they hold their ground and refuse to be nothing in the world.

The most positive pieces of a Slytherin are their determination and will. They are strong-minded, and you cannot take them down with your words. They can do bad all on their own, they do not need your approval or consent, therefore your opinion makes nothing to them. They take pride in their accomplishments, often making new goals along with their general long-term ideals, so they are always setting rewards for themselves and making sure they feel successful in life.
Slytherins can have a roaring self-confidence, which to some can be seen as a bad thing, but really helps them in life quite often. They are powerhouses and they are good at it, which means they are great at persuasion and sweet talking their way into something that they want. This is a great trait, because it means they do not have to resolve to brute force and argument, which they have no problem with initiating either. They can cause conflict and offend others easily, though this is often not intended, they are just blunt and rather apathetic to the views of others, and do not think of what they say in this manner.
Oddly, the positive traits of a Slytherin are also their downfall. This is because they have extreme highs and lows, caused by their own doing. Others cannot put them down, but they can quickly hurt themselves, thinking of everything they have ever done wrong and suddenly thinking themselves a failure, and to some degree panicking over it. Sometimes their barriers can come down and they aren’t sure how to react to things, like a scared child, and in these times they need a friend, not to be pushed away, though during these times they may also lash out.

An incredibly common sign for a Slytherin is Libra, as both are great in the art of smooth talking and weighing all their options to figure out what is the best for them. Any hobbies a Slytherin takes up has to be one they consider useful, because if they feel they are wasting their time, they get angry with themselves very quickly. So often they take up hobbies more so as back-up plans than enjoyment, things that if need be could be a good career along the road. This could include things such as sports, usually rougher ones such as football or rugby, graphic or web design, and writing of novels.

Quite often, Slytherins can go in and out of friendships, not really retaining them, because friends aren’t always part of their plans. They tend toward a few close friends, and these friends they are incredibly loyal to, and some of the people they care about most in their life. Slytherins can come off as cold and uncaring, but never underestimate the love they have for their family and friends, it is strong and relentless. They are not the type to spread rumours about you, because if they were to do something like that, they would much rather do it to strangers, not people they would rather not hurt. If a Slytherin does hurt you and they realize it, they have a hard time saying they are sorry, because apologizing to them is a sign of weakness. When they try to talk to you as much as possible and seem much more polite, it is usually a sign they are sorry for whatever it is they have done.

Slytherins can be narcissistic at times, and generally cold to the feelings of others, instead focusing on their own needs and ideals. They can put others down this way, though it is often not as intentional as you may think it is, it simply comes as a second instinct to them to be this way. They can also be perfectionists by nature, getting incredibly frustrated and hurt when things do not go the way they expected them too. They hid their emotions so well it is almost scary, but when it comes down to it they are the second most emotional house there is, and can therefore be prone to extreme highs or lows, and at times even depression. They can be very avoidant to situations which may engage their sympathies.

Slytherins are the most agnostic in their views of all the houses. This is because they believe whatever it is they believe, but they very rarely dwell on it, and they could care less what others believe either. They are more into the general idea of the human race and how they act as a whole, rather than sides of good or evil, that does not interest them in the slightest. As they see it everyone is down a specific path, and they are along to have fun in the duration of the ride.

Common career and occupational choices among Slytherins are those that are very prestigious or those that are looked well upon, because they expect only the best for themselves. It is quite common for Ravenclaws to hide their true selves in public. This makes them quite the mystery to the untrained eye, a curious puzzle that some may want to figure out, and with good reason. Ravenclaw is the virtuoso of the houses in Hogwarts, as they are filled with those who excel in many intellectual and artistic aspects of life. Ravenclaws are incredibly focused in every sense of the word, as they focus on the details of whatever their passion may be, and they also see the big picture well enough to know they should focus on all parts of their lives in order to achieve success. Ravenclaws are observant and curious, often preferring to watch people from a distance, rather than interact.

This doesn’t mean they are control freaks or absolute nuts about having everything a certain way, they just are very independent in wanting things how they want it, and if it isn’t that way, they can stress out easily. Sagittarius is very common among Ravenclaws as well, as they tend to be observant and imaginative.

The virtuoso aspect of Ravenclaws mean they have a wide array of hobbies quite often, though they tend toward things that challenge their mind, rather than athletic ventures. This means they enjoy writing, fiction or non-fiction, reading, drawing or other forms of design, and musical instruments, that being only a taste. A gentler Ravenclaw may also enjoy caring for animals.

Ravenclaws make as good as friends as any, and can be loyal in their friendships. However, if you are looking for someone jumping at any and all opportunities to spend time with you or have fun in big groups, then you are not looking for a Ravenclaw. They feel uncomfortable in large crowds, and much prefer to have a few close friends, ones that enhance them mentally and challenge them to be better. They may find most of their friends in their field of work or study, as then they feel more relaxed as if they have more in common with an individual. If a Ravenclaw finds you worthy of their time, they may not be very affectionate at first, but you must give them time to warm their heart and believe you are part of them, and as this progresses they will become sweeter with you, and airy in their love.

Ravenclaws can be rigid perfectionists, and need everything to be a certain way, almost to the point of obsessive compulsion. In fact, many of them may think if they don’t do something they way they believe it should be done, something terrible and life-altering could happen. They also can have very eccentric or strange ways of thinking compared to their more social counterparts, as they rarely give into peer pressure, and therefore express themselves as they see fit, though this is in no way a fault. The more feeling Ravenclaw may be prone to depression, as they feel they are cut off from the world, not seeing that it is in their nature to be independent and that they are happy this way, so instead they think there is something wrong with them and they divulge into sadness. Often they do not know how to remedy this themselves, so if you are close friends with a Ravenclaw and they seem down, it is best to reassure them they are a unique and beautiful soul. Other than friends, the outlets they may use to cure their depression are other worlds, such as novels or movies.

Ravenclaws often can one of two extremes with religious views, the first being that they can be incredibly and deeply spiritual. This can be for any religion of course, though they tend to lean toward ones that involve the universe as a whole, rather than one all powerful God, as that idea to them seems highly unlikely. The other path a Ravenclaw often goes down is that of science, believing everything happens due to actions and reactions, that there is no higher power, and that the Earth is the way it is due to science, and we can easily find ways to explain everything in the world if we try.

Though they are not usually outspoken, Ravenclaws adore debate. They love the idea of an intellectual back and forth firing contest, to see what others think compared to what they do. They will not talk to extremists about things who are ignorant in their ways, but want a mature, intelligent conversation about what is going on in the world. If you give this to them, they will be very pleased in having talked to you, and it is people like you that give them a spark of interest in the world of politics, not politicians.

Common career and occupational choices among Ravenclaws are those in which they can enrich themselves while keeping others informed. The more social Ravenclaw may tend toward psychiatry or psychology, counseling, or teaching. The more logically driven one may tend toward forensic sciences, mathematics or architecture. Many Ravenclaws also adore the world of literature, and enjoy writing of all kinds.

G e n e r a l - P e r s o n a l i t y
Hufflepuffs, generally, are pacifists. They have an extreme dislike for conflict, and would rather solve things through words and common sense, rather than resort to violence. They are the children of nature, and feel a strong connection to it, spiritually. They feel a much stronger connection to animals and the Earth, rather than other people. This is why they oppose of violence so much, because in the long run, it hurts these factors more than it does anything else, and to them, this upsets the balance of nature. They believe strongly in ultimate beauty, within the world, within the soul and within the universe. They are easily upset, though they will rarely show it, as they feel like this would cause unneeded stress and drama to others. They value everyone else above themselves, and rarely wish harm on any. At their worst, Hufflepuffs are a force to be reckoned with, as if they were mother nature herself, they are stronger when scorned, do not take them for shrinking violets due to their nice demeanor.

Hufflepuffs are very likable in that they have many positive traits. They are kind and giving, healers in their nature. They wish only the best for everyone, and are often optimists. They are not necessarily social butterflies to the degree a Gryffindor may be, but once they begin to be comfortable in a setting, they are warm and generally happy in their circle of friends.
They are also very loyal and strong, though they may not be straightforward and blunt. They tend to be good emotional absorbents, meaning they can take it all that you are feeling, positive and negative, and understand it. This can go one of two ways. If a Hufflepuff likes you, which generally they will give you the benefit of the doubt, they will be empathetic and try to use this to help you. If, for some reason, you betray or upset a Hufflepuff, do not think they will just go sulk, this is simply how their darker and more negative side comes out. A very common star or sun sign for a Hufflepuff is generally Cancer, as both have the qualities of peacemakers and healers. They love people and taking care of them. They combine well in this manner because they have no conflicting feelings about their empathy, they just want to do onto others as they would want done onto them. Pisces is also very common among Hufflepuffs, as both are more reserved, but full of creativity and imagination.

Hufflepuffs tend to hobbies that make them feel as though they are making the world a better place, in some form or another. This varies greatly, it can be something as large as volunteer work or helping care for children or animals, and other times it can be something that they, as an individual, see as bettering the world. It is a matter of what branch of nature and Earth they connect with as an individual, and what brings out their true spirit.

Hufflepuffs have many acquaintances, rather than a large circle of friends. They get along with most people from a distance, and they prefer it this way. They have no need to get close to people, because their sense and observation of everything around them shows them what a person feels, what they are thinking, and they don’t need to talk to them to understand their view points. They are perfectly comfortable knowing many people but only having a few close, true friends. In this case, they are often the type of friends who will drive you home when you’re drunk, or bring you something of you don’t feel well. They love random acts of kindness toward their closest friends, because they bring out the motherly side in them. Due to their avoidance of conflict, friendships for Hufflepuffs can last for a long time.
